Abstract
The project consists of confronting a modified version of the BFKL formalism, derived within QCD, to different processes at the LHC, each involving the scattering of gluons with small values of Bjorken-x, emerging from the scattering protons.

The work is to be partitioned into four work-packages. The first two involve the forward BFKL amplitude which will be used to deduce the unintegrated gluon density within a proton and consequently the prediction of processes such as jet production or lepton-pair (Drell-Yan) production in kinematic regions that will be reached for the first time at LHC.

The second two work-packages involve the extension of the modified BFKL formalism to amplitudes with small but non-zero momentum transfer and their exploitation to predict various diffractive events at the LHC, including the very interesting diffractive production of heavy particles (such as the Higgs boson) between two forward jets (or protons).

Because of the unpredictable nature of theoretical physics investigations, the precise partitioning of the period of the grant between the work-packages is not possible. Nevertheless, it is hoped that the first two packages can be completed during the first year of the grant, so that the second year can be devoted to diffraction.
