Abstract
‘ILC-HiGrade’ is a project funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme with five million Euros funding until 2012. ‘ILC-HiGrade’ stands for ‘International Linear Collider and High Gradient Superconducting RF-Cavities.’
One of the main objectives of the proposal is to create at least 24 accelerating cavities, superconducting components made of pure niobium for the planned International Linear Collider (ILC), that reach the high technical standards needed for the planned particle physics project. Other objectives of the ILC-HiGrade proposal are the development of a possible organisation and governance for the ILC and measures to prepare for the actual construction of the machine, including a detailed study on possible sites in Europe.

Six institutions have come together for the project: DESY (Germany), CEA (France), CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), CNRS/IN2P3 (France), INFN (Italy) and Oxford University (United Kingdom). They bundle the leading expertise in Europe in accelerator development and superconducting radiofrequency (SCRF). ILC-HiGrade builds on the experience European partners are gaining with the European X-Ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) (www.xfel.eu), which uses the same accelerating technology. The consortium also makes optimum use of the existing infrastructures in Europe, including the test infrastructures in place at DESY for the future XFEL and a high-tech laboratory (Supratech) of CNRS and CEA at Orsay and Saclay, France.

DESY Participation
WP1: Management of the Consortium
WP2: Coordination of European Contribution to GDE
WP3: Develop structure of international organisation to build and operate ILC
WP4: Develop a proposal to site the ILC in Europe
WP5: Develop communications strategy for the ILC project and produce information in main EU languages
WP6: Acquire 30 cavities; develop a high gradient cavity production process with European industry
WP9: Contribute to the procurement of 3 cryomodules for a string test together with the international community
